where natures beauty and history come together

This photo was taken from near the top of Bohemia mountain facing west. The name Bohemia was the nick name of James Johnson the man who discovered the gold.

This is the stamping

mill purchased by Joseph Knott in 1870.  It was the first operation to start

 processing the gold

and eventually brought a fabulous amount of wealth to the area.

The gold from the Bohemia Mining District brought a financial boom to the town of Cottage Grove.

This is the Historic Columbia River Highway, parts of which are still in
use today.
